Engagement!

After three and a half years of dating, Nick and I are finally engaged.  Nick took me to Navy pier on April 8th, 2009 to pop the question.  He was noticeably nervous the whole morning.  While I had an idea of what was coming,  that did not make it any less exciting.  We spent the morning together finishing up some errands before we left.  We decided to take the CTA, because it was way more fun than driving.  Looking back, there was no way Nick could have driven, he was too nervous!  We just got our tickets for the Ferris Wheel, and I was way too excited that the price to ride it had dropped to think about what else was going on.  It took forever for us to board, even though no one was in front of us in line.  I never looked at poor Nick, but I can imagine the look on his face.  Finally, our car came around, car number 1.  Nick kept asking if we were almost at the top.

Nick clearly nervous on the way up!

Still excited about the low ticket price, I almost didn't notice him fiddling in his pocket.  Nick being nervous on the Ferris Wheel is nothing new, each time we go on it, he panics as I rock the ferris wheel car back and forth!  We finally got to the top, and Nick pulled the small box out of his pocket and simply asked me, "Will you marry me?"  Always the control freak, I told him he had to get on one knee.  Terrified, he slowly made his way down to his knee.  The next minute or two was full of tears and kisses.  When we finally got down to the bottom, the man told me.  "Don't worry ma'am, the ride is over."  I didn't even respond to him, I still had no idea what was going on.  The lady next to him asked if we had just got engaged.... for a second I didn't know what to say, then I answered with a half crying-half laughing "yes!"
My best friend had called me right after it happened, while we were still on the ferris wheel, and I practically hung up on her! I was still in lala land!  When I got off, I started calling my friends, and then realized I should call my family.  Nick offered to take me out for a picnic, but I wanted to go home and celebrate with my family.  Little did I know the celebration had started long before I got home.  As soon as my family found out, they started flocking to my house.  Silly Nick had put the news online, and it spread faster than the Swine Flu!  The rest of the day is pretty much a blur, full of friends and family celebrating with us!  However, the very last person I got to tell in person, was my future mother-in-law! I didn't have a chance to see her until the following day at Grandma Connie's house.  That was the most exciting part of all.  I was so happy that she was happy!
